Our social contribution to ESG
We are a purpose-led organisation, focused on making a difference in people’s lives. As an insurer, our number one role is to help people when they need us most – when they make a claim. We believe we have a social responsibility, underpinned by a shared-value approach, to help people improve their health.
AIA Impact
AIA Impact is a leadership and community program that partners senior AIA leaders with leaders of not-for-profit organisations focused on the prediction and prevention of chronic diseases, and the behaviours that contribute to disease.
Participants developed a two-year strategic plan to assist the not-for-profit organisation to achieve their goals and execute strategic projects with the guidance and support of the participating AIA leaders.
Shared Value
AIA Australia has a strong shared value strategy, which means the work we do benefits our customers, delivers value to society at large, and contributes to the sustainability of life insurance. We're proud to be a founding member of The Shared Value Project – which was established in 2014 as the peak body for promoting shared value in Australia.
Our demonstrated commitment to drive improved health outcomes for all Australians, as well as our ongoing contributions to improve the life insurance industry, makes us a leader in the Australian life insurance industry.
Community Volunteering
AIA Australia recognises the importance of giving back to the communities in which we live and work. We’re proud to provide eligible employees with one day of paid Community Volunteer Leave per year, where employees can spend the day helping one of our volunteer partners.
We also provide emergency response leave and paid blood donor leave to employees donating with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
AIA’s Community Volunteer partners include:
Gender Pay Gap
At AIA Australia, we embrace diversity. We know to achieve our purpose of making a difference in people's lives, we need a team that represents and understands the needs of the customers and partners we help. Our people are our greatest strength, and we empower our team members to have meaningful careers by fostering a diverse, inclusive and supportive culture. Our culture is anchored to our Operating Philosophy of Doing the Right Thing, in the Right Way, with the Right People.
Community Grants
In 2024, AIA Australia launched its Community Grants Program to mark ten years of AIA Vitality in Australia and to deliver on our purpose of helping Australians lead healthier, longer, better lives.
Grants were available to community organisations and individual initiatives or projects across four categories:
- Physical health (for example, sports groups and clubs for kids or adults, nutrition groups, community health initiatives)
- Mental health (for example, social connection initiatives)
- Environment (for example, community gardens, coast care initiatives)
- Equality (for example, gender focussed groups e.g. men’s sheds, women’s shelters, gender support programs, disability, LGBTQIA+, cultural, generational)
After receiving 73 applications, we selected 50 community groups who will receive funding and additional support so that they can continue to make a positive difference for their communities and members.
