The program provides teachers with tools to educate and inspire their students in four areas – healthy eating, active lifestyles, mental wellbeing and environmental sustainability. The lessons for the AIA Healthiest Schools program have been developed in line with the Australian national curriculum and include educational videos featuring well-known Australians to bring the teachings to life.
Primary and Secondary Schools across Australia are invited to take part in the program to gain access to resources to help inspire students to improve their health and wellbeing. Schools also can enter the AIA Healthiest Schools competition, developing a healthy project for the chance to win US$100,000 to accelerate the impact of their health and wellbeing initiative.
The AIA Healthiest Schools Program takes place in schools in Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Winners from each country are then entered into a regional competition where they have the opportunity to be selected as the overall primary and secondary school winners.
In 2024, St Rita’s School was the winner of the AIA Healthiest School Program in Australia, with St Joseph’s Primary School as Runner-Up. St Rita’s School was then entered into the AIA Healthiest School regional competition against the other global winners. Malaysia’s SK Putrajaya Presint 11(1) was recognised as the Regional Winner this year for its innovative HELPIE app to improve students’ mental health.
The AIA Healthiest Schools Program has just concluded after its second year and will return in 2025.
