Melbourne, 29 August 2023 - AIA Health Insurance is launching a suite of private health insurance products for temporary visitors living and working in Australia, available from today.
International visitors on an Australian working holiday or working and skilled visa can now sign up for affordable Overseas Visitor Health Cover that is compliant with their visa requirements and protects them while they are not eligible for Medicare.
Private health insurance is a requirement and condition of entry for many temporary visitors to enter and work in Australia.
For AIA Health, the move to offer private health insurance to international visitors is a natural extension of AIA’s commitment to helping the wider community lead healthier, longer, better lives.
AIA’s Overseas Visitor Health Cover helps them maximise the value of their visa-compliant health insurance, so they can receive the care and protection they need while in Australia.
AIA Health is part of the largest independent publicly listed life insurance group in Asia Pacific AIA Group, which was first established more than a century ago, and protects over 50 million lives across 18 markets.
AIA Australia CEO Damien Mu said the new offer was part of the insurer’s dream to help Australia be one of the healthiest and best protected nations in the world.
“We appreciate how challenging moving countries can be and there’s a lot to learn about our healthcare system when you come to Australia. This is why we’re committed to giving our members peace of mind, knowing that their health will be taken care of while they’re in Australia and that their cover meets their visa requirements,” he said.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer customers affordable and accessible healthcare from a brand they already know and trust.”
Cost-effective hospital cover starts from $63 per month for singles, with cover options available for couples, single parents and families. The insurance will also include medical repatriation, funeral and mortal remains services.
Because AIA understands the pain points during the visa application process, new members will receive their health insurance certificate straight away and receive cover from the first day of arrival.
When they join, members will also have access to AIA’s convenient online portal to make it easy to claim and update personal details. They can also access a 24/7 health helpline provided by AIA’s trusted partner Nationwide Helpline Services (NHS), that provides medical assistance, counselling and a translation service in over 180 languages.
Starting today, AIA will offer cover to eligible visa holders arriving under the visa subclasses 188, 400, 403, 407, 408, 417, 462, 476, 482, 485 and 489.
