A Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) positive status is unlikely to prevent you from taking out life insurance due to a better understanding of HIV, advances in medical treatment, and reducing infection rates.
Our life insurance products do not contain automatic exclusions for HIV. You can still apply for life insurance cover and while your HIV status will be considered, the focus of the underwriting assessment will be on your general health, as well as your medical history.
If you are HIV positive, you may be asked additional questions about your diagnosis, such as the treatment plan, viral load and other related conditions.
In some cases, whether you are HIV positive or not, the answers you provide in your life insurance application may prompt us to request additional information from your doctor.
Dependent on these responses you may be fully accepted for cover, have an exclusion or loading placed on the cover, or be declined cover. Disclosing your HIV status does not necessarily prevent you from making a claim for HIV if no exclusion for HIV has been applied to your life insurance policy.
When taking out life insurance, you must answer the questions that we ask honestly and truthfully with a reasonable care not to make a misrepresentation. If you don’t do so, this may impact any claim you make.
