As we know, mental health impacts many Australians annually, in fact as reported by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in 2024, in the past 12 months it is estimated that 4.3 million people have been affected by mental health. For AIA Australia, mental health is one of our top claimable events.
When adverse mental health occurs, it’s good to know that we can help support your clients find the help they need through our Rehabilitation Service. See how Paula got the support she needed to start her getting back on the right path.
Meet Paula!
Paula*, a 52-year-old Allied Health Worker working part-time, ceased employment due to anxiety, depression and stress. At the time of engagement with rehabilitation services, Paula expressed difficulties with engaging in meaningful tasks outside of work, and noted significant financial concerns which impacted her ability to access treatment for her mental health. Initially, Paula was referred to Mind Coach to assist with providing tangible wellness strategies to assist her with managing her low mood, stress, and anxiety. She also commenced treatment with a psychologist. Paula engaged in the 6-week coaching program, and then agreed to AIA’s RESTORE program which supports a customer’s wellness and work readiness.

During the program Paula continued to engage with her psychologist, whilst also working with the Rehabilitation Provider to build strategies to improve her resilience and confidence. After a period of 9 months, Paula felt able to re-enter the workforce and was supported to secure new employment.

Paula gained part-time employment in Allied Health and worked closely with the Rehabilitation Provider to increase her contracted hours. Paula was able to sustain part-time hours at the culmination of the program and reported to be engaging proactively in leisure activities and socialising with her friends and family.
Paula stated at the end of her program that she “would not have made the gains I did without the support received” and “found the occupational therapy input to be compassionate, practical and motivating”
