We are delighted to introduce Tom Mitchell and Patty Cripps as our newest AIA Vitality Ambassadors. These extraordinary individuals bring with them a wealth of achievements and leadership qualities. Tom Mitchell, a star midfielder and founder of Ball Magnets, consistently demonstrates his exceptional skills on and off the field. Patty Cripps, captain of the Carlton Football Club, exemplifies dedication and determination throughout his career. Both Tom and Patty have also been awarded the Brownlow medal, further cementing their immense contributions to the sport. To celebrate their appointment as brand ambassadors, we had the pleasure of hosting them, along with Hamish McLachlan, at our headquarters in Melbourne. During an engaging panel discussion, we explored their journeys as brand ambassadors, their insights into health and wellbeing, and their strategies for maintaining a positive mindset in the face of adversity.
AIA Vitality Ambassadors, Tom Mitchell and Patty Cripps, give us their insights into health and wellbeing and how they maintain a positive mindset in the face of adversity.
Here are some quick takeaways from their conversation that we’d like to share with you:
Wellbeing is about embracing the small somethings
When it comes to your health and wellbeing, it’s easy to fall into an “all or nothing” mindset. You may feel like you need to fully commit or not even bother trying. However, Tom and Patty believe that the key to living a healthier, longer, better life lies in embracing the small somethings that you can do every day to care for your physical and mental wellbeing. It could be something as simple as taking your dog for a walk or starting your day with a few minutes of meditation instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media. By focusing on these daily rituals, you can prioritise your wellbeing and work towards achieving your bigger goals.
Finding a purpose is key to living a positive life
During the conversation, Hamish, Tom, and Patty discussed the inspiring story of Neale Daniher, a footy legend who faced Motor Neuron Disease (MND) with an unwaveringly positive and purpose-driven approach to life. Neale turned an unimaginable challenge into a catalyst for change, showing us that we all have the capacity to find meaning and make a difference, even in our darkest moments. So, take a moment to reflect and discover what truly drives you, because finding your purpose can bring a renewed sense of positivity and fulfillment in your life.
One-percenters are crucial to becoming a better you
Hamish, Tom, and Patty also explored the significance of one-percenters in the pursuit of personal growth and wellbeing. They emphasised the value of focusing on incremental progress in all areas of life. By paying attention to the details and consistently striving for continuous development, they believe that anyone can make significant strides towards their goal. They highlighted the power of consistent effort, attention to detail, and a commitment to constant improvement. Whether it’s dedicating a few extra minutes each day to self-care, cultivating healthy habits, or seeking opportunities for learning and development, embracing the concept of one-percenters can lead to transformative changes in your life.
It’s important to separate the person from the performance
As Ash Barty, one of our other AIA Vitality Ambassadors, once said, “It’s what I do, not who I am.” This statement highlights the significance of separating your identity from your accomplishments. It’s great to be passionate about what you do, but it’s equally important to maintain a healthy perspective. Remember that your professional achievements do not define your self-worth. A setback does not make you a lesser person, just as achieving a goal does not automatically make you a better one. Embrace the lessons of both successes and challenges and let your true value shine beyond your performance.
We hope these insights from our latest AIA Vitality Ambassadors resonate with you and inspire you to prioritise your wellbeing, find your purpose in life, and embrace a healthy perspective. Remember it’s the small somethings you do every day that make a big difference in your overall wellbeing and happiness.
