At AIA, our experienced rehabilitation team can help identify claimants who could benefit from seeking additional rehabilitative assistance to help answer these questions and provide greater clarity.
After an injury or illness, often times there's the fear of the unknown. What will my finances look like? What’s my prognosis and chance of recovery?
Meet Will
Will*, a 48-year-old self-employed Landscaper, was unable to continue work because of a lower back injury. His treatment included physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and pilates, however, he continued to experience pain and was unable to lift more than 10kg, so surgery was recommended. Will underwent disc fusion surgery, followed by further physio and hydrotherapy. Whilst he recovered, well his medical team advised that he would never be able to return to landscaping work due to permanent work restrictions and the heavy, physical nature of this work.
Will advised that he had a contact who would be able to offer him office-based work, however, he continued to experience pain and numbness, and didn't quite feel well enough to work.
AIA Wellbeing and Rehabilitation contacted Will and discussed his current symptoms and work goals. We supported him with a local exercise physiologist who designed an exercise program to support him to gradually increase his fitness and his sitting and standing tolerances.
As a result, Will successfully returned to work as a Horticulture Operations Manager, undertaking office-based duties and provided the following feedback:
"They referred a great exercise physiologist to me. It was easy and seamless."
